With the release of Design Automation for Inventor on Forge, it's possible to leverage the scale of the Forge platform not only saving money but also removing the bottleneck of processing automated workflows. You can now automate jobs in parallel and only pay for the processing time used. In this talk we'll go over a number of customer success stories in moving automation from on-premise Inventor servers to our cloud-enabled, scalable Forge service reducing time to process from days down to minutes, imparting a competitive advantage. Specific topics include: 1) design automation overview and typical workflows; 2) customer case studies on moving automation to Forge; 3) extending the value of existing design data through the Forge platform; 4) Manufacturing and Construction automations with Inventor and Revit engines together; 5) what's next: road map and things we’re hearing around automation and Forge.

It is common for most sheet metal fabricators to have an ERP (enterprise resource planning) or MRP (material requirements planning) system, as well as software that addresses their needs for nesting and machine programming. What is not commonplace is for those systems to talk to one another very well. This class will present a case study in which the users are designing in Inventor software, managing their revisions and model data in Vault software, using a cloud-based ERP system to input sales and inventory information, and using TruNest to drive all of the machines connected to their sheet metal fabrication operations. What this class will demonstrate to attendees is a fully integrated sheet metal fabrication workflow, from the design of the product to its manufacture on the shop floor.

This class will explore techniques for introducing the use of Advance Steel software into the processes and workflows of a steel fabricator. Steel fabricators typically have very specific standards that govern how their documents look (and what their crews are expecting to see on those documents), what fabrication techniques can be utilized as a result of the available tools, and how to optimize the steel fabrication process and delivery. We will explore how to customize Advance Steel software to accommodate fabricator standards, produce common CNC (computer numerical control) files, and automatically create documents that display the information that fabrication crews can easily read and interpret. The overall goal is to enhance productivity and reduce rework and fabrication errors through customization tools within Advance Steel software.

AutoCAD Civil 3D software gives us many great features out-of-the-box for our day-to-day hydraulics and hydrology (H&H) modeling needs, but it's not until you dig deeper that you find it can truly bring out the I in BIM for civil engineers. Stop limiting your H&H workflow inside of the AutoCAD® software environment to simple area takeoffs. Don't limit the pipe network functionality to what comes out-of-the-box. Learn to use Civil 3D pipe networks, parcels, and catchment objects to greatly improve H&H productivity and drainage map plan production. Empower your team with the tools needed for advanced H&H workflows in Civil 3D as the data is prepared for seamless exporting into the Hydraflow Storm Sewers Extension for Civil 3D or for Autodesk® Storm and Sanitary Analysis software. This class focuses on setting up your drawing templates and shared part catalogs for enhanced H&H modeling. We do discuss workflows, but this class focuses mainly on setting up the tools that are needed to perform the workflows.

Airport projects don’t fit into the typical AutoCAD Civil 3D software corridor workflows. And yet airfield designers require Building Information Modeling (BIM) workflows just as much as, if not more than, conventional road designers. Designs have tighter tolerances, quantities are larger, and cross sections more complex. The challenge is in utilizing creative and sometimes unconventional corridor modeling methods, as well as configuring AutoCAD Civil 3D software appropriately. Led by a civil engineer with professional aviation design experience in AutoCAD Civil 3D software, this class will cover advanced strategies for modeling aviation projects with Corridors. We’ll look at unique assemblies, including the use of “reverse assembly modeling,” complex targeting, and atypical corridor baselines to model portions of runways, taxiways, intersections, and aprons. The class will use the completely revised Geotechnical Module within AutoCAD Civil 3D software. The class is aimed at expert users who want to learn how through standard AutoCAD Civil 3D functionality they can mould and manipulate surfaces to model geology. In this hands-on lab you will learn how to model multiple geotechnical lenses and pockets of geology. The class will take you through the steps required using standard AutoCAD Civil 3D software to create feature lines that will be used as breaklines and boundaries to almost magically model the geology. You can use these methods over and over again to model a wide range of subsurface geology. You can ultimately use the model geology surfaces within Building Information Modeling (BIM) as is, or you can convert them into AutoCAD software solids and use them in a wide range of software.

This class is for users who want to get more out of pressure pipe network design using AutoCAD Civil 3D 2013 software. We will cover general tips and tricks for increased productivity and present a step-by-step walkthrough of creating pressure network parts using tools included in Civil 3D, but that you might not know about.

This class presents solutions developed for a typical Florida transportation reconstruction project. We will cover how to effectively apply data management principles to an AutoCAD Civil 3D corridor project based on a real project. We will review common questions and concerns expressed by a team that is initiating a Civil 3D software project and step through how to divide a model for multiple users and plan production. Our focus will be in managing data references and multiple corridors.

Detailed indoor maps can significantly improve building management and operations while delivering amazing user experiences inside buildings and facilities. With the Apple Indoor Maps Program, Apple makes it easy for organizations to easily add indoor maps to apps and websites and enable indoor positioning, all without the need to install beacons. This session will go into detail about the Indoor Program and how Autodesk’s building operations product, BIM 360 Ops, integrates with it.

Autodesk industry partners CSC and Design Data have combined their expertise to deliver a consistent Building Information Modeling (BIM) process for the entire design of steel structures. This process links CSC Fastrak, Autodesk Revit Structure, and Design Data SDS/2 Connect software. We will demonstrate how a full code-compliant design of the steel structure can be produced in Fastrak, which can be synchronized with both Revit Structure, for the creation of BIM documentation, and with SDS/2 Connect, for the full design and detailing of the steel connections. The fully designed Revit model can then be exported to SDS/2 Detailing software for the creation of the fabrication model. Integration between Fastrak, SDS/2 Connect and Revit Structure is a powerful solution for the steel industry. Bridging the information gap between design and fabrication shortens timelines, enhances project communication, and ultimately reduces project costs.

Intended for structural engineers, this class covers an integrated process for the rapid analysis of complete concrete buildings and the detailed design of concrete floor and foundation systems modeled in Autodesk Revit Structure software. We will demonstrate a workflow through a step-by-step process of extracting concrete building information from a Revit model, creating a 3D finite element model of the building, and generating structural analysis results—all within minutes and without having to first fine-tune an analytical model. Analysis results include member forces, floor system deflections, building modal vibration responses, and load takedowns. This process saves time and gives engineers an easy method for quickly checking the structural response of concrete models. The class will also cover options that are available to carry out detailed design of the concrete floor and foundation systems of any building. We will use the latest concrete building design software from ADAPT and Revit Structure in this class.

This class will focus on how 3D laser scanning was implemented into everyday use in a six-person civil engineering office with the Leica® C10, Leica® Cyclone, Leica® CloudWorx, and AutoCAD® Civil 3D® software. We will explore the changes in workflows that were required due to the implementation as well as the benefits and challenges. Grady Consulting is a small civil engineering company based in New England with special expertise in designing septic systems, including septic modifications and repairs, mostly for residential clients. In 2010, we added a Leica® ScanStation C10 and Leica® HDS software to our toolkit, plugging these tools directly into our septic system engineering process. This presentation will describe our field and office workflows and the benefits of using laser scanning for these everyday projects. In addition, we will describe the activities to expand the company’s services to new applications and new clients as a result of adding this scanning capability as part of the company’s service offerings.

Roundabouts are popping up all over the place. They're becoming commonplace in our transportation projects. Yet many engineers and technicians are finding them quite complex to design. With so many moving parts and factors to consider, it can be rather tricky to create a roundabout that is safe, easy on traffic, and properly draining. This is where the new roundabout tool in Vehicle Tracking software (AVT) from Autodesk, Inc., comes into play. It contains a powerful roundabout design tool that generates a fully dynamic corridor, not just 2D alignments. It sets up baselines, regions, targets, and so on, all for you, and it gives you the ability to modify the design afterwards.
