SimaPro, a sustainability partner, and ProtoTech, a technical consultant and reseller, are building a POC web app to demo at AU 2023, showing a web-based sustainability analysis workflow of an Autodesk Fusion 360 design. SimaPro requires mass, weight, and material to perform the sustainability analysis. Mass and weight are mass properties, meaning the company needs to extract and store mass properties for components in PIM so that SimaPro can access this data to perform its analysis in a web-based environment outside of Fremont. Currently, physical properties are extracted only inside the Fusion 360 canvas. PPE is a scalable solution that enables users to extract physical properties on-demand outside the Fusion 360 canvas using GraphQL APIs. Physical properties extraction trigger is also integrated with Fusion 360 workflows like on-milestone creation, as well as view physical properties in Fusion Team.

As a new player in the electric vehicle market, Rivian Automotive needs to move fast. In addition to building a new product line of electrics trucks, SUVs and delivery vans they need to build the facilities infrastructure to support. This includes an array of new office space TIs, service centers, factory additions, charging and new retail spaces. Jacobs manages multiple large-scale projects each year. One of the challenges is to manage all the users within the Autodesk Construction Cloud platform, as well as their assigned project products, roles, and companies. Another challenge is to visualize users' permissions on different folders within one page without clicking through each folder. To solve these problems, Jacobs worked with Autodesk to develop a user management dashboard via Autodesk Data Connector. Jacobs also extracted users' folder permission information using Autodesk Construction Cloud Connect, maximizing Autodesk Platform Services. A data pipeline was set up to streamline the data into Power BI for better visualization. New regulations, requirements and guidelines around sustainability are emerging rapidly around the world. The commitment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, energy, water and waste calls for sustainable buildings and infrastructure. Sustainability regulations and requirements in Scandinavia (and the rest of Europe) are putting forward demands that require new ways of working and better data insight e.g., Environmental Production Declaration (EPD) data. One example is that all new buildings above a certain size need to be Life-cycle Assessment (LCA) documented and compliant. As a manufacturer and installer of structural glazing products, custom designed and assembled in an automated factory, Starline Windows is uniquely positioned to work with developers and architects directly within the Revit environment. This creates many advantages and challenges in working across organizations and various internal departments. I have worked extensively with Autodesk and their Partners to implement a design process at Starline Windows that represents our product to the highest level of excellence within our shop drawings, while simultaneously creating machine data files and material managment information. I will share my experience in identifying oportunities for digital transformation and process improvement, and I will speak to implementing change across organizational boundaries. I will discuss how to bridge from a modeling environment to a data centric solution while still maintaining a "data entry once" approach for efficient, agile project delivery.

"Data is the new oil.” This quote was made more than 15 years ago, and it's more valid than ever. The architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) industry is in possession of massive amounts of data, but often struggles to turn it into profit. BuroHappold actively innovates in the field, building out capacity to extract, process, and interpret the data embedded in its intelligent models at scale. This involves setting up a multilevel framework, including databases and code infrastructure, as well as presentation layers. A prototype of the system provides two main functionalities that deliver three types of information in a flexible and extendible manner: building queries and running them against Revit models (correctness) as well as periodic extraction of model metrics (project progress and performance). The session will guide you through the thought process behind the undertaking and implementation itself, starting from inception to the current state of the project.
